You Can't Beat Berkline Recliners - Mine's Been Going For 11 Years
If you're thinking of buying Berkline recliners, they have a nice easy push-button on the side which opens up the recliner feature instead of an arm that sticks-out like La-Z-Boy might have. I chose Berkline when I bought my leather recliner couch, and it's been going good, still looking like-new after more than ten years.
I'll oftentimes sleep in the left-hand recliner. I've even laid down and gone to sleep on it; it's very comfortable, and I even have a Sleep-Number bed; nothing beats a Sleep-Number bed (except possibly Berkline recliners). Furniture isn't just something that should sit in your room and look good; you use furniture so you'll be comfortable.
Berkline doesn't give their chairs fancy names, generally, they'll just call them things like 'Style 154'. You don't know anything about that particular Berkline recliner by hearing that. That's the kind of confidence that Berkline recliners inspire. You don't have to try to get someone's attention by waving a fancy name in front of their face. Berkline recliners are so well-known that people come to THEM.
Style 154, by the way, is a white pillow-top recliner with welted seams. The pads on the arms cover in just a way that you want to place your arms there. Their PowerRecline mechanism allows you to automate your recline just from the single touch of a button. One advantage of this is, you can nearly touch the wall with the couch, yet it reclines fully. My couch is only about three-inches away from the wall (I just took a ruler and measured it) and the footrest opens fully.
Only thing I'd warn you about is how quickly it springs into action. If you ever push the button when your feet aren't on the rest, boy you could break someone's leg. It comes out with a "WHAM". Even though I've kicked in the footrest every night for ten years, it's still not worn out. You push the footrest inward to have it engage; then it's ready for the next time you watch TV. Since I bought it in 1999, I wasn't completely sure if it was a Berkline. I didn't know where the label was, but I figured it might be under the footrest. Sure enough it was, and it's a Berkline.
So, I have some actual facts and figures I can give you. It's been 11 years, I've sat in that recliner now for 11 years, at least 3-hours every day. That's 12,045 hours. I've tried to always put a towel where I sit, but none at my back. I put a towel where I eat food on the arm. The only 'damage' is on the seam at my back. There's a little bit of brown showing through the tan leather. Once I used a rougher cleaner than just plain water (like 409) to clean the footrest and the arm. It came clean. The mechanism acts exactly like it did when I bought the couch. So, get a Berkline, you can't beat Berkline recliners.
